Re: Medical school enrollment projected to increase by 17 percent

It is not surprising because logically the AAMC has a vested interest in this prediction. With all the physician extenders (read that health care providers) in the marketplace, encouraged by managed care, it is likely, if there will be in fact more medical students, after residency training, they may not be able to make a living let alone repay their indebtedness. Academics should be looking at ways to be less dependent on a government that is inclined to reduce remuneration for medical services. One would assume that medical school candidates would look upon medicine as a "calling" in the mold of Dr. Schweitzer. I'm not sure that either generation X or Y sees it that way.

Of course, I could be wrong.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
