Re: Question about placenta accretaFrom: GIN11153@aol.comSun Oct 29 12:27:26 2006
No, Dr. Anna, I was not at all implying that knowing of an accreta present would have saved her uterus. I was just asking if it was possible to diagnose it before hand or if it was a surprise like shoulder dystocia. My concern with this case was that the consent hadn't mentioned possible hysterectomy so patient had to resign on the table while bleeding heavily (anesthesiologist said it was OK because she had no narcotics on board-just the spinal) plus the lab should have been notified that even though there was a type and hold order, more than likely they were going to need the blood quickly. Everyone was running around hysterical and I would like people to be calmer the next time in order to remain focused. I was under the opinion that you shouldn't do an MRI during pregnancy due to the noise and protecting the fetus' ears but I guess not. I learn so much from all of you! Thanks so much for your input when I post. Even though I have worked in OB for over 34 years, there are always new things to learn! The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
