Antihistamines and pseudoephedrine that dry the nasal mucus membranes also dry the vaginal membranes. They take one to dry their nose on a date and bingo...Dry nose/Dry vagina. sam atkinson,MD

Subject: Vaginal dryness in a 17-year-old

Precepting residents today. One of them saw a 17-yr-old with cc of vag dryness, interfering with intercourse. Clinically dry on exam also. She has regular menses, no other indicators of estrogen deficiency. Wt. 230.

She is on Ortho-Evra for past 2 years. Have any of you ever seen this in a young woman? Is the patch causing it?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
