"The governor's action will help ensure that the skin care treatment patients receive at medical spas and other satellite offices will be supervised by physicians with an expertise in skin care and skin disease, said Dr. Dan Meirson, immediate past president of the Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, which, with the Florida Medical Association, supported House Bill 699 as a way to promote patient safety. Members of the medical spa industry and some companies that make dermatological equipment, such as rejuvenation lasers, opposed the bill. They argued that any doctor can be trained to adequately supervise these procedures."

Actually, the practice of medicine is an activity LICENSED by the state, so the state can regulate it. In this case, it looks like the local medical groups are generally supportive of the law as well.

And I presume the using of an office for commercial purposes is also regulated (separately, in a non-medical sense). So separate from medicine, the state COULD restrict ANY business from having multiple offices, if there was a legitimate and overriding government reason to do so.

I don't know how the FL governor can do this. Here in So. Calif., OB/GYNs with MediCal mills sometimes have 2-4 other offices.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
