Re: Third stage, how long?From: Elrod, Darryl G Maj 48 MDOS/SGOBO (Darryl.elrod@LAKENHEATH.AF.MIL)Thu Jun 22 03:04:46 2006
I know we've been through this before, but we don't give pitocin until after the placenta and I can't remember the last placenta that took longer than 5-6 minutes. Glen //SIGNED// D. It depends on whether you use an oxytocic after the birth of the baby or not. If you give an oxytocic then the placenta is usually delivered by 10 mins although I have seen them take longer. How long would you wait until a woman was considered to have a retained placenta and subsequently taken to theatre for a MROP? Gail

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
