No, just take the device out if she wants to get pregnant.

I have a new patient coming in tomorrow for removal of a partially expelled IUD, her pap is negative except for actinomyces. I haven't seen her yet, but the referring health department says she is asymptomatic. Generally, we don't treat the asymptomatic ones, but this is a patient planning a pregnancy. Looking through medline I see a few case histories of chorioamnionitis & pelvic actinomycosis in pregnancy. So. . .would you treat? Advise a waiting period? TIA.

Marilyn

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
