Re: HPV VaccineFrom: LCLEMOS@aol.comFri Jun 9 14:37:40 2006
What do I mean by saying that there are some countries where women have little control over their sexual lives? Is that news? You cut out the beginning of the sentence asking what will happen in other countries, where the higher rate of cervical cancer death, lack of pap smears and treatment makes the decision to vaccinate a bit different from our discussion about vaccinating our children. One of the arguments I read online about vaccinating boys has to do with cultures in which girls are intended to be virgins at marriage thus the vaccine should be needless and might indicate suspected "impurity" in a girl, yet the reality is quite different. I also read a lot about anal intercourse being popular and common in countries where vaginal virginity is prized...so wouldn't the HPV vaccine be useful in those settings? The ethical question comes in negotiating public health decisions while respecting their beliefs.... Laurie In a message dated 6/9/2006 11:24:14 A.M. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
