Anesthesiologist Sues His Own Hospital for Wife's Death Dr. Terry Phillips filed a lawsuit against Franciscan Health System for the death of his wife, a 55-year-old marathon runner. His wife went to the emergency room at St. Joseph after complaining about severe abdominal pains. Phillips was certain she required immediate surgery, but she spent hours in a hospital bed without standard monitoring before she died. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
