Re: HIPPA violationFrom: Myer Bornstein (mborn@massmed.org)Fri May 26 08:48:38 2006
Well we have baby pictures posted on a bulletin board in the office for all to see. First since there are no names , who is to know who it is. Secondly that photography doesn't know the HIPAA law Myer _____ From: ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net [mailto:ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net] On Behalf Of Meenan, Anna Sent: Friday, May 26, 2006 8:18 AM To: Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L Subject: Re: HIPPA violation So, yeah, don't you get it, Glen? What if someone was to see one of those pictures and RECOGNIZE the baby? Then they would know that the kid had been BORN. Don't you realize how traumatic it could be for anyone to have strangers find out that, way back in their murky past, they had been (gasp!) BORN?????? Anna Meenan, MD (world champion at avoiding the camera) The photographer then stated that it could NOT be taken at my desk because all the baby pictures behind my desk were a HIPPA violation if seen in a picture. Like any good obstetrician, I have a few hundred baby pictures and several of me with a cheesy grin on my board behind my desk. I told them its what I do for a living, if they don't like it they can go find a picture somewhere else. So, they didn't get their picture of me since I'm sure if THAT is a HIPPA violation, seeing my ugly mug in a book is some sort of violation! Glen //SIGNED// D. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
