MS Medical Board Adopts New Rules for Expert Physicians

Some attorneys are upset about new regulations adopted by the Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure. These rules seek to regulate doctors testifying as experts in medical malpractice cases. One rule will prohibit a physician expert witness from accepting payment contingent on diagnosis, or an opinion or on the outcome of a legal case. Associated Press, Biloxi Sun Herald 05/19/2006

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
