Re: 'cleared of all clot and debris' - was: no subject received Wed, 3 May 2006 09:02:42 -0500From: Raymond Stephen (stephen.raymond@dhhs.tas.gov.au)Sun May 14 19:09:00 2006
Seem to have missed replying to this. I was taught not to dilate the cervix as it will dilate itself with all the prostaglandins around. But more importantly, unless you swab out the vagina with some sort of disinfectant before you begin you are going to be putting your fingers through into a bacteria laden upper vagina and then pull it back, contaminated, through the cervix and the uterine incision . The idea doesn't appeal at all. What about dilating the cervix in elective C/S? I usually pass one or two fingers and then replace the outer glove.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
