Yeah, but don't blame the grocer if that's all they can get... And, to further your analogy,if we have 3 or 4 sets of perfectly good apples, but none of them happen to be Cox's Orange Pippin, and the only apple in the patient's yard is Granny Smith, well, it's not our fault that she can't get Cox's. She still has all the choices that there are.

Why'd you post it without commentary if you don't agree with it? Again, I think there are probably articles about the statistical safety of homebirth which aren't as tendentious, and which might actually persuade someone who was willing to look at the evidence.

This sort of article is interesting mainly as yet another example of why obstetricians aren't paying attention to home-birth advocates. Even if one starts reading it respectfully, and with a wish to be convinced, one winds up thinking well of the opposite position, largely because of tone and lack of balance in the presentation.

When you go shopping and you want to buy say a sweet, juicy red apple. The person serving you gives you a green, dry sour apple and says that's all they can give you. Who has the control? Well, you could walk out and try another shop but they all say the same thing. You have no control over what apples you buy. Now if you ask for a sweet, juicy red apple and they offer you several kinds, the control is now yours. It's a simple analogy but, hey, why make it hard?

The RCOG has guidelines that we follow, but, and it's a big but, the women have the right to refuse anything they don't want. The phrase is woman-centred care. If CEFM is recommended due to her history and the woman refuses, she doesn't have it. End of...

Remember, Barb, the article was not written by me and I don't agree with all of it either. Though from the tone of your response I think you think I do.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
