What's: "routine admission CTG's" Ronald E. Ainsworth, MD, FACOG -----Original Message----- From: ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net [mailto:ob-gyn-l@obgyn.net] On Behalf Of GA12L@aol.com Sent: Monday, May 08, 2006 9:56 AM To: Multiple recipients of list OB-GYN-L Subject: Re: cesarean art In a message dated 08/05/2006 17:00:18 GMT Daylight Time, blnicol@ix.netcom.com writes: No one believes her obstetrician when she says "you did great!" after a CS when she has the gut feeling that her natural-childbirth buddies will think she didn't fight the CS enough, or didn't eat right, or breathe right, or somehow did something wrong that "caused" the CS. It's called peer pressure. However, for some women the need to give birth vagianlly is so great that when they have a c/s they feel they've failed. It's like a death to some women and they grieve for the birth they didn't have. There are certain things that we here in the UK have abandoned because they increased the section rate. For example routine admission CTG's. Our section rate which was rising year on year went from an average of 29% to 22% nationally and is as low as 14% in one hospital in Yorkshire. What I don't understand is if a woman is paying for care why doesn't she get what she wants when a growing number of celebs get exactly what they want. To name a few Cindy Crawford, Demi Moore, Lucy Lawless, Meryl Streep, Lisa Bonet, Carol King, Pamela Anderson, Jade Jagger and Kelly Preston all gave birth at home...in America! Gail

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
