Well the line of thinking was that a small puncture in the dura matter would reepthialize in 24 hrs and make a spinal headache less likely and less severe. The big advance in spinal anaesthics was the use of very small gauge needles for spinals it has made the incidence of spinal headaches after spinals and epidurals almost the same.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
