Forever, osteoporosis is only preventable with medical management in most women.Another important point to remember is that though estrogen is very good for osteoporis prevention when women stop estrogen they will actually have an accelerated bone loss compared to women who were never on estrogen, with the WHI many women choose to stop after 5 years so its even more important to start these women on something else, right now the two most practical options or bisphosphonates and the selective estrogen reputake inhibitors.
