In reply to Sue, who wanted to know about routine tests for Amish/ Mennonite women.

These communities in the US vary quite a bit from state to state. In Tennessee in our area, they will accept blood-typing, hematocrit, and, increasingly, CBCs, and GBS testing. They refuse Vitamin K, accept eye prophylaxis, and will now accept PKU (as the state has begun paying for PKU).

No prenatal diagnosis, as the Amish believe that disabled children are God's way of teaching people to love.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
