- Problem Patient

Some of you folks on the list may remember my experience with a severe shoulder dystocia resolved with a symphysiotomy. The subsequent law suite tripled my liability insurance, and forced me into a 7 month retirement. The financial and emotional cost was extremely high. Fortunately I did manage to re-enter practice, limjted to gyn ( and very selective re patients, Rx etc). This non-compliant patient should have been discharged IMMEDIATELY upon her refusal to comply with the recommendation re: admission. If you so far have not been involved with the nightmare of a law suite, my advice is to recall the old adage, "he/she who runs away lives to fight another day". This patient is a disaster about to happen.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
