There is an older book by Penny Armstrong who worked with the Amish for many years. Part of the culture is plain rooms ( no pictures). The few Mennonite ladies that I have taken care of were self pay also. They wanted minimal interventions unless needed. They preferred just to have the quiet bedside support of the midwife and intermittent monitoring. The ladies were not offended by the pictures but one gave me a suggestion of using a quilt with color on the wall instead of the picture of a Mennonite child with a quilt. The family is usually supportive and they have been grand multips. The ladies I have taken care of were very open to discuss what they wanted/liked, but I always approached it from the idea that I did not want to do anything to offend or make them uncomfortable during labor.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
