Robert,

This was the best question on the thread. Not how you do the test, but why do the test.

I send placenta cultures twice a year maybe - in cases of unexplained preterm birth, kids where i see mec at early gesataional age, cases where things don't seem routine and the literature supports infection as a possible cause.

In a similar vein, what it your take on sending placentas to pathology?

PS is it placentas or placentae?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
