Probably b/c the lab in most hospitals would never do them on time. One hospital where I worked attempted to make this a lab responsibility, and by the time we got results from the lab, it would be well past mealtime (and often well past the time they were checked). Trying to manage sliding scale insulin, or worse, a drip, is a joke when you can't get BG checks at the right time.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
