Re: AmniSure ROM Test--> CLIA and the PEFrom: doctorjoe@aol.comTue Mar 14 12:31:28 2006
I'm always a little aggravated at the CLIA stuff and things that are (to me, anyway, simple-minded as I can be sometimes) simply extensions of the physical exam. When you listen to a heart through a stethescope, you don't have to be frickin' CLIA compliant. So it should be with spun urines, wet preps, ferns, and etc. Just a pet peeve of mine. That is why our hospital's L&D staff now sends the slide to the lab to "officially" read it. The experienced nurses still use the microscope clandestinely, but for awhile it was completely removed until the docs revolted. Ronald E. However, those of you who are sending ferns to lab can have the L&D nurses do the CLIA competency for fern rather than send it to the lab. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
