Gail,

In the context of Joe's lucid observation, only a fool or otherwise intellectually challenged individual would dispute the factual conclusions he draws. Richard's earlier remark therefore, should not be characterized as name calling. He was merely making a statement based on empirical observation. I wouldn't take it as name calling, I would take it as a reason for some introspective reassessment or an inspiration to seek some alternnative mentoring and to be open to consideration of same.

A woman with NO risk/health factors is at higher risk of morbidity and mortality if she gets pregnant than if she doesn't. This is simply a fact of life which you ignore at your own (and your patient's) peril.

MHO is that several thousand years of human history suggest the answer is yes....and I guess that creates quite a divide right there.

I think you could be right, it does create a divide.

I don't believe that pregnancy endagers a woman's life, per se but that other health factors make a pregnancy risky. In a healthy woman with no existing medical conditions pregnancy would not endanger her life. If pregnancy was a life threatening condition I don't think women would become pregnant. The fact is women are designed to grow and give birth to a baby. Having said that, I am prepared to change my mind if you can offer evidence that pregnancy in a woman with no existing medical conditions is a life threatening condition.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
