The only advantage I see to Amnisure is if it is a CLIA waived test that the nurses can do at the bedside. Personally, I would still prefer to do a fern myself - it takes very little time and I trust what I am seeing. The nurses used to be able to do it for us at night, but with CLIA regulations, they aren't authorized to use a microscope, the lab technicians have to read the test and it takes a lot longer to get the results, costs patients more than it's worth and I don't trust the techs as much as I trust myself or the nursing staff who had been doing it for many years.

I would wait to see what a couple years of use elsewhere shows before I would switch. Just my conservative nature. I have seen too many things look good to start and then go to hell in a hand basket.

It seems logical to stop using Nitrazine, fern, pooling etc if we bring in AmniSure. You comments will be greatly appreciated. Agree! Robert Modugno MD MBA FACOG Marietta, GA

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
