If indeed, as the article states: 'Its prevalence has been estimated to be less than 0.001%; because of its rarity, the relationship between actinomyces found on a Pap test in an asymptomatic IUD user and the eventual development of this infection is unclear.' Why take away her method of contraception that has evidently been working well for her. IUD's fill a very effective gap in choice of a contraceptive method for many women who have tried and failed other options. Would the chance for an unintended pregnancy be worth the risk, as small as it is, for pelvic actinomyces? Joseph

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
