As on ER here in the US, the patients in Bodies are secondary to the story which is really about the relationship between the nurses, midwives (I have yet to figure out which is which), house staff and attendings (Sorry Gail, I don't remember your terms for them in the UK).  But most of the patients, as on ER are in crisis, therefore NEED all the most urgent interventions, including for the most part IV's, EFM, and the little blowing things.  Have not seen any epidurals yet, though.

I advise my patients against Maternity Ward; it is the same - all emergency OB.  Baby story occasionally has a nice home or waterbirth, but I think epidural and induction rates are higher than you would expect since they like to film during the day so they choose a patient who is coming in for an induction in order to have more control over the situation.  Since the women are not really actors.  In any case, I am enthralled with Bodies.  We each have our own set of problems...

Gail, maybe you'd enjoy the plastic surgery shows...I keep hoping there'll be one on hair transplants or flap rotations...its beginning to have a personal meaning for me, hehe.

The British series Bodies is back on  (BBC-USA).  I am fascinated by the differences and similarities.  Do any of you from the UK watch this?
I stay away from these programmes because it ! makes my bp rise but apparently Bodies is very good according to some of my colleagues.

I try not to watch American programmes either as all women are connected to IV's, connected to CTG machines and on their backs on beds.  I'm sure it's not al like that but that is what's is portrayed on the TV.  If I hear "take a deep breath in, hold it for a count of 10 and push into your bottom" one more time I'll scream. So I avoid these programmes like the plague for the sake of my sanity.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
