Surprise breech was Re: ventouseFrom: fran wilson (530rose@msn.com)Sun Mar 5 00:52:03 2006
I had a surprise breech a couple years ago. Head was high, I didn't want to poke too much and accidntly arom with the head high, baby felt like vertex by Leopolds, and heart tones were in LLQ, at least below the umbilicus. I had her sit on the toilet to bring the head down, and she sromed there. So I hustled her back into bed to check for a prolapsed cord, and there was the presenting part almost visible. So grabbed my gloves and told her she could push if she wanted. Then I saw the baby's "head" and my first thought ~which immediately came out of my mouth~ was that I had never seen a hispanic baby that was so bald. Then we got that big glob of breech meconium and I knew! Oh crumb, what to do! I just let Ina Mays "breeches and twins" video play in my head and did exactly what I was "seeing," and VOILA! But it did remind me that I should see what I am seeing rather than trying make what I am seeing fit what I am expecting to see. Fran Wilson CNM
