You are dictated to only so much as you allow ... Ethically, you are obligated to practice with your patients' best interests in mind, regardless of insurance coverage. I hear all the time statements such as," the patient's insurance company dictated that I do such and such" and I cringe. If two treatment options are acceptable, then going for the less costly makes sense. But when one course of action has been clearly superior, then the choice should be obvious. The same should be true of patient discharge. If you are not comfortable medically about discharging a patient, then don't.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
