In 25 years of OB nursing/midwifery I have seen babes held upside down but never spanked. I have, on the other hand, seen one OB put a curved peon into the vagina of female babes and open it up for the purpose of tearing the hymen. He would say, "You will thank me later on." The first time I saw it I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I asked him and he explained that this was a perfectly acceptable procedure. I think I would have preferred a spanking. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
