Re: Vaginal Hysterectomy closure/Vaginal BSOFrom: ainsron (ainsron@sbcglobal.net)Thu Jan 5 18:35:22 2006
I still have that book on my book shelf, it had some great pearls. I love the subtitle: "new techniques based on time and motion studies." The idea that surgery can be not only careful but time-efficient was not considered by many of my attending staff. Our residents gave an annual award to the resident who was the slowest surgeon, it was called the "Fibroblast award," for sewing slower than the normal healing of the body. One of our junior staff members was a Berry-planner (deferred military service until his residency was completed, which was pretty common during the Vietnam conflict). We made an exception and awarded it to him for two consecutive years, then retired the award in his honor. He would take three hours to do a simple vaginal hysterectomy, an hour and a half for a cesarean section. He had a great mind, just slow hands, residents hated to operate on his day. He later completed a MFM fellowship at Parkland. Ronald E. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
