Task 7 How are patients called to the exam/treatment area (e.g., by first name only, first and last name, last name only, number system, photo id)? 164.530 (c)(1) To protect patient confidentiality, practices may wish to avoid using both first and last names together, and instead use either just first name or just last name when calling patients back for treatment or use. (Suggestion) Robert is correct, This is per the ACOG HIPPA compliance manual that I use. Tell the lawyer to go chase another ambulance. Ronald E. By calling her name out you did not disclose any confidential medical information. I would tell the said lawyer to go screw himself. Got a letter from an attorney whose client visited my office and was called by her name in the waiting room. He informs me that this is a HIPAA violation - which I guess technically it is, but come on... Lynn

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
