Having no idea of the rules, but, intuitively, such application of a hyphen would violate the rules for use of hyphen. Or, as Greenspan might say, a conundrum.

Now, as you know, a distinguishing characteristic of ob/gyns is that they scrupulously follow rules. Has not that been your experience?

We don't have that problem in Spanish - infinitive is one word - "facturar" for "to bill" - "no facturar" - "not to bill"

I think the split infinitive question we've been following would more reasonably be analogized to something like German.

I always liked to rationalize the split infinitive criticism by making the verb complex.

For example, "to boldly go" is allegedly correctly stated as "to go boldly" or "boldly to go." However, if you "define" the verb as "boldly-go" (sticking the hyphen in for demonstration purposes), then "to boldly-go" is the infinitive, different from the infinitive "to go" modified by the adverb "boldly."

Hope that makes sense (i.e. the Parkinsons and Alzheimers isn't setting in yet, all you smart peeps).

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
