Amnioinfusion

G1 in active labor. 4-5 cms dilated. SROM, clear fluid. Moderate variable decels. IUPC and FSE already in place. Amnioinfusion recommended. 4th year resident said it was "too early to do an amnioinfusion." She said that there were studies showing that women who have amnioinfusions for extended periods of time absorb the solution and then have electrolyte imbalances from the infusion AND the uterine muscle fibers would absorb the fluid causing an increased uterine tone that was irreversible.

This is new to me. Can someone give me more information regarding these two statements?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
