Sadly, if a homebirth goes bad (and I'm NOT saying that is more frequent than in the hospital, maybe less), then we may have inadvertently left ourselves open to criticism from the homebirther turned plantiff, i.e. why didn't you tell us bad stuff can happen? etc.

It is very much less at least it is over here. The current research says the safest place to give birth is where there is least intervention...home!

I know you weren't 'questioning the wisdom of homebirth' but it seems to me that if you 'don't do' homebirths there has to be a reason and I am curious to know what that reason is.

Many midwives here wouldn't attend a homebirth if their lives depended on it and so choose to work in a hospital. I hate the technology and am very confident in leaving a woman to 'get on with it' and sitting on my hands and doing nothing. Horses for courses. Surely there are some OBs over there who believe in homebirths.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
