Obviously pregnant woman have illicit opiate and heroin abuses as well. It is bothersome that they would not be willing to work with OB health provider. Methadone is there to preent the withdrawl symptoms she would experience fromt he opiates and resulting continued use in them. She can be continued on the Methadone through the pregnancy. It is likely to keep her more reliable in her Prenantal care visits. Baby will have some slight withdrawl which the pediatrician can handle. Check mom fo HIV and Hepatitis C. Alternative is too try to wean her off the methadone. Methadone dosing is good for 24-36 hrs. andy

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
