Re: Preeclampsia Follow upFrom: Andrew Folley (agfolley@hotmail.com)Sun Oct 9 21:30:22 2005
With referenence to the case we discussed with woman 34w 5d and 6 gram proteinuria. Severe preeclampsia defined solely by proteinuria >5 g/24 hours. This is not an indication for delivery. Many clinical studies show that neither the rate of increase nor the amount of proteinuria affects the maternal or perinatal outcome of women with preeclampsia.31,32 In light of such data, it is somewhat disappointing that the latest ACOG Practice Bulletin on this topic did not remove isolated proteinuria greater than 5 g in 24 hours as a criterion for the diagnosis of severe preeclampsia.16

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
