The same thing happened to my wife when my son was born in 1984, except his hand presented through the rectum (really--I saw this myself!). The fine Ob (I was a second year resident) repaired it without creating a "total" 4th degree laceration, i.e. he repaired the rectal mucosa without cutting the sphincter. Garry

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
