REI questionFrom: Lynn D. Montgomery, M.D. (apgar10@montanadsl.net)Wed Sep 14 12:58:52 2005
Listers, Please update me here. I have a patient who had a diagnostic laparoscopy in '03 where the findings were a hydrosalpinx on the right side and a proximal occlusion of the left tube. The remainder of the pelvis was relatively normal. They decided to endeavor upon an IVF cycle now. I got a one line note from the reproductive endocrinologist that stated that she needed her right hydro removed before he would consider IVF. In addition, he told the patient that the hydro would cause her to have an elevated day 3 FSH therefore needed donor eggs and that the hydro would also "wash out" any egg he implanted in the uterus. I have trouble believing that a long standing, "sterile" hydro would impede IVF success, effect ovulation resulting in an elevated day #3 FSH and have enough spillage to "wash out" an implanted egg. Lynn

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
