Baby Born to Unconscious, Cancer-Stricken Mom DiesFrom: Dean Huffman (dean@thehuffpeople.net)Mon Sep 12 16:48:19 2005
.. Baby Born to Unconscious, Cancer-Stricken Mom Dies -- 5-Week-Old Infant Suffered Heart Failure - Susan Catherine Torres, born a little more than a month ago to her unconscious, severely brain-damaged mother, has died of heart failure. The 5-week-old infant passed away Sunday night at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., following emergency surgery to repair a perforated intestine, according to a statement released by the family. The baby was delivered by Caesarean two months premature at a Virginia hospital Aug. 2. Her father, Jason Torres, had decided to keep his cancer-stricken wife alive on life support for three months in order to help the fetus develop. A day after he welcomed his daughter into the world, doctors removed 26-year-old Susan Torres from life support. In their statement, the family expressed its thanks for the widespread public support. "After the efforts of this summer to bring her into the world, this is obviously a devastating loss for the Torres and Rollin families. We wish to thank all the people who sustained us in prayer over the past 17 weeks. It was our fondest wish that we could have been able to share Susan's homecoming with the world." Dean Huffman

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
