Re: CatgutFrom: Raymond Stephen (stephen.raymond@dhhs.tas.gov.au)Mon Aug 8 18:02:04 2005
1. Vicryl Rapide doesn't dissolve as quickly as plain catgut - about as quickly as chromic catgut - i.e. 7 - 10 days. 2. "Re permeabilisation" or recanalisation results from the ends of the tubes being held together. If they fall apart when the ligature dissolves the risk is considerably lessened - and though I can't quote the papers, they are there in the literature. Please EBM in the 21st century. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
