The same could be said about terbutaline and other off label uses. All one needs for a suit is an angry patient and a willing lawyer. I remember a lengthy treatise by an attorney about the evils of fetal monitoring and why we should be sued for using it.

Some people are far braver than I. I'll do things when (a) it becomes mainstream AND (b) it's better than what I've been doing. That's the reason I never used laser for cervical dysplasia and why I'm not a fan of LEEP.

If there were to be any sort of subsequent problem that could be linked to this, it would be difficult to back up based the small number of clinical trials and the fact that this does not seem to be a standard practice in other areas of the country.

As has been brought up in recent threads, it is sad that legal concerns dictate our clinical practice.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
