Prior DVTFrom: Elrod Darryl G MAJ 48 MDOS/SGOBO (Darryl.elrod@LAKENHEATH.AF.MIL)Fri Apr 22 06:37:46 2005
I have a 30 yo G1P1 whose prior pregnancy was complicated by chorio/failure to progress and resulted in a section. At 4 weeks postpartum she developed a DVT. In looking at her Doppler study it appears that the clot went from hip to ankle. It included common femoral, deep femoral, superficial femoral, popliteal, ant/post tibial and peroneal vein. She was on coumadin afterwards for 6 months. Her complete thrombophilia workup was negative. She now has had her IUD out and wants to try and get pregnant. I know that prophylaxis is recommended during the next pregnancy, but does anyone have an idea of what her RISK of recurrence would be? Would that risk be higher than a less involved DVT? I have read anywhere between 4-12% recurrence. Thanks, Glen

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
