Efrain-

Like you, we embraced VBACs and generally found them satisfying. We take in-house call so the "immediately available" dictum was not such a big deal to us. After the 3-strikes amendment passed in Florida last November, we quit offering VBACs. Our schedulers, OB nurse, staff, and physicians all provide information regarding our policies to patients and any "challenging" patients are forwarded to me. What amazes me most is how patients acquiesce once I tell them that it's due to the legal climate in Florida. Patients do know that ob/gyns are having a tough time with medical liability issues, and, at least in our area, it seems that they find this a more or less reasonable explanation of why they cannot obtain certain services (VBACs, timely mammograms, certain surgical procedures). Sadly, politics and economics seem to be replacing evidence-based medicine for many of the services physicians and hospitals offer patients. Best wishes,

Ashley

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
