Re: Ultrasound as part of the normal examFrom: Henry Gregor (henrygregor@yahoo.com)Fri Mar 18 09:06:47 2005
Appreciate your post. The opportunity to sample observations and viewpoints from so many folks of so many different backgrounds makes this listserve probably the best aspect of all the myriad capabilities the internet brings to the office. Hank

>Hank, as always an excellent post. Well thought out, intellectual yet sufficiently homey. I bet you are a good people person and relate nicely to your patients. However, I've snipped a couple of things: I.E., if its so good, why isn't that modality making a dent in ovarian ca detection and treatment result? Um, because the biology of the process doesn't lend itself to early and/or easy detection? Cadillac equipment on hand, if the providor's got a Cheverolet mind. (Maybe I should say Lexus and Honda.) LOL. I use the Ford versus Chevy analogy when speaking about why I might use a Gomco for a circumcision*, versus others who might use a Mogan. I also tell mature gravidas that Nuchal Translucency/PAPP followed by MSAFP and level 2 scanning at 19 weeks is the "Lexus" approach to testing. Do know I'm reluctant to make the "paradigm shift" (love that phrase...pretty high falutin' language for a boy originally from Archie Bunker's NY neighborhood and now hanging out in the mountains of western NC, lol) to such ready reliance on a tv sono as an indicated uptodate substitute for a hands on exam of the patient.... Dinosaur #2, who was not brought up with transvag sono and just does enough to be dangerous with early Ob patients, agrees. Let's not lose sight of the forrest--we must lay on hands!! Garry

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
