I trained with an REI that NEVER did a bimanual exam. He would do the speculum for the Pap and then an ultrasound was the bimanual. Even though I don't do it for everyone, I do try and do my own before sending them to radiology for a second opinion.

I seem to remember a thought a while ago that doing a vaginal scan during a routine pelvic exam should be commonplace.

It is not in my practice, and I don't think that many others do it automatically for every exam.

Do any of you do them routinely for an asymptomatic person presenting, say, for an annual examination?

If you have a reason to want an ultrasound (physical findings, history, etc.), do you do it on the spot, or have them return, or send them elsewhere?

If you do it on the spot, do you charge AND collect for it?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
