As Brick suggested, it requires practice and skill to perform vaginal sonography (BTW, he and I learned from the same people),and the equipment is very expensive. I probably do around a thousand a year and can't imagine practicing without one in the office. Our insurers seem to pay for gyn vaginal sonograms, although many balk at paying for "OB" sonograms, even for first-trimester problems like threatened miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. They tell us that these problems are part of the global OB package. Thanks. Ashley

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
