Re: Interesting D&E lawsuitFrom: GIN11153@aol.comThu Mar 10 23:02:50 2005
Not being a physician, I was under the opinion that after a D&E, as in a vag delivery, you check for leftover products of conception by examining the placenta for completeness, checking the fetal products of conception for completeness, etc. I don't understand how a doctor/medical provider can leave the head of a dead fetus in someone. I worked at a huge 1000 bed hospital in New York City in the 70's where we did a lot of saline abortions and D&Es for fetal demises from 14-20 weeks , and I always checked prior to sending to pathology , or saw the MD check the fetal parts to make sure they all came out. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
