Hypothalamic amenorrhea

Dear endocrinology enthusiasts:

We have a patient who has been worked up and found to have hypothalamic amenorrhea.

We sent her to one of the local REIs for the pulsatile GnRH pump but were dismayed to be informed that "it is no longer available."

Is this a case of another "orphan drug" where the number of potential users is so small that the company who makes it finds it's not worth the cost?

Does anybody know if one can rig up an insulin pump to deliver the GnRH or is it impossible to get one's hands on some GnRH?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Any international colleagues have ideas? I'm sure the patient would be quite willing to purchase a pump from overseas if necessary.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
