Re: Clinics Ask State Supreme Court To Block Kansas AG's Investigation Involving Medical Records of Women Who Had AbortionsFrom: Diane Castellanos (tdrcaste@yahoo.com)Sat Feb 26 09:40:50 2005
I do not believe everyone has every right. I just don't think that if a 14 year old has had sex with a 14 year old that it should be reported to authorities as Abuse--although some states require it. According to what was quoted as Kansas law...sex by a minor is child abuse and must be reported. In the federal law the minimum requirements for reporting are quoted. States may stay with the minimum or may exceed the minimum requirements. Kansas has exceeded the minimum requirements by allowing "sexual assault" and "sexual battery" (even statutory) as "Abuse". Would you report the girl to authorities, who came into your practice, in confidence, for the diagnosis or prevention of pregnancy because she was 14 years old? They need some place to go. Some peoples practices are closed, really closed. As difficult as it is to get teens into prenatal care, it would seem to me that an "inviting atmosphere" is more productive for giving patients the opportunity to chose adoption. If providers refuse to see teens or frighten them off, where do they go? Diane "I believe a self-righteous liberal or conservative with a cause is more dangerous than a Hell's Angel with an attitude. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
