I can imagine that if a candidate for ABOG oral boards had a vaginal breech or Kielland rotation on his list, he would be severely criticized and sent back for a refresher course for another try.

I FAILED my oral MFM boards once, primarily on the criticism that cesarean and puerperal hysterectomies in my case list were TOO DANGEROUS and TOO HARD TO DO. Of course, since I had coauthored papers on series of c-hysts and did a monograph on them (all based on my own and my institutional experience), I clearly had WAY more experience than the examiner (who, as I recall, was an MFM of some national repute - now a chairman, I think). When I PASSED my boards, one examiner picked my brains about chlamydia (since I was an infectious disease person) and DIDN'T flunk me for knowing more than she did. She's famous now, too. But obviously has a different philosophy about life than my other examiner. We live and learn. Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
