I have just prevailed in an 11-year lawsuit that originated out of my administrative duties as the department chair at the hospital. Make sure that your hospital is willing to back you up should there be an "issue" with a staff member. A medical malpractice insurance policy usually does not cover administrative duties as chair. The first letter that I got from the hospital's insurance company after being served listed all the instances they would not provide coverage. Make sure you are comfortable with the coverage their policy provides for you in carrying out correctly your duties as spelled out in the hospital's by-laws and R&Rs. We won. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
